UK Annual Health & Safety Stats 2012

The HSE have published their key annual accident statistics for the year 2011/12 (April to March). The figures are very similar to 2010/11 as shown below:

  • 1.1 million workers suffered a work-related illness (down from 1.2 million in 2010/11).
  • 173 workers were killed whilst at work (up slightly from 171 in 2010/11).
  • 111,000 employees suffered other injuries (down from 115,379 in 2010/11).
  • 212,000 over 3 day absence injuries were reported under RIDDOR (up from 200,000 in 2010/11).
  • 27 million working days were lost due to work-related injuries and illness (up slightly from 26.4 million in 2010/11).
  • £13.4 billion is the estimated cost to society of work-related injuries and ill health (excluding cancer) for the year (down from £14 billion in 2010/11).
